Bedford Relays 2025

Tri-Anglia were represented as 8 teams of 3 (109 teams total) at the Bedford Relays this year.  Most of us rocked up to camp overnight at Box End Park on the Saturday which despite driving through biblical rain to get there, turned out to be a lovely afternoon and evening to sit around and carbo-load on maybe inappropriate beverages. We seemed to be the only club arriving the night before so had the pick of camping spots.

Race morning and we were registered and ready to go.  Water temp was cool enough to allow wetsuits (the site had recorded water temperature of 25+°C early that week). The relays are as team of 3 to each do the 750m swim, 23 Km ride, then 5.4 Km run.  The swim was a duckling start (like Norwich Tri) so limited argy-bargy in the water.  Each tag handover was at the bike in transition so easy to find you teammate (unless it was me returning from the bike to give to Stan who was absent from chatting and same deal for Chris waiting for Caroline).  The bike saw a few shower downpours, but the wind was kind, so we all had reasonable bike splits. The run was a 2 lapper so good opportunity to support you team when you had done your stint and each team would gather to run in together as a threesome to cross the line together.

Overall, we did OK.  Our youth team came 8^th overall in the open category.  The senior Nollers and Lightfoot took the veteran mixed win category so we did come away with some trophy-age.

Team MCK had a broken chain but were transported back to camp and allowed to carry on.

This is a great event to get involved in the club and allow us to represent for this regional event.  It is all very light hearted and you get to mixing with your clubmates.  Full intention to compete again next year.
