Norwich Junior Adventure Triathlon 2025
We are excited to be bringing back the Junior Adventure Triathlon after the success of last year's trial event.
The event is an Adventure Triathlon which will include an open water swim, a challenging off-road mountain bike ride (definitely no road bikes!) and a trail run.
It is a closed club event, only open to Tri-Anglia Junior Members.
It is not an official British Triathlon event so there are no timing chips or technical officials. We do provide medals, a finish line, race numbers & race belts, dedicated transition, marked out courses, safety kayak & powerboat trained staff, friendly, helpful marshals everywhere and St Johns Ambulance First-Aid.
Open to ages 8-16
Distances for all three disciplines are your Juniors' choice! We want the event to be fun for everyone. We will give you suggested age group distances and then it's up to your Junior to choose how many laps of each course they would like to do.
We will set out a 50m swim triangle, 700m bike lap and a 600m run lap.
These distances may change on the day, it all depends on how accurate the tractor driver is when he cuts the grass!
For example: They could swim 2 laps (100m), bike 3 laps (2.1km) and then run 2 laps (1.2km). If they prefer running to biking, they could run more laps than they bike. Just as long as they have fun and challenge themselves!
8 years – suggested distances:
Swim 50m, Bike 700m, Run 600m  - or more.
9-10 years – suggested distances:
Swim 100m (2 laps), Bike 1.4km (2 laps), Run 1.2km (2 laps)  - or more/less.
11-13 years  – suggested distances:
Swim 150m (3 laps), Bike 2.1km (3 laps), Run 1.8km (3 laps) - or more/less.
14-16 years – suggested distances:
Swim 250m - 300m (5-6 laps), Bike 3.5km - 4.2km (5-6 laps), Run 3km-3.6km (5-6 laps) - or more/less!
If any of the Juniors are not keen on the open water swim, they can opt to complete a bike/run Duathlon. We'll start them on the bike course at the same time as others in their age group start their bike laps. Let us know if that is your preference.
The event will kick off the Norwich Triathlon Festival Weekend which continues on the Saturday at 4pm with BUCS Championships (definitely worth hanging around to watch the University Triathletes swim start!) and of course the main weekends' event is our award-winning Norwich Triathlon on Sunday 22nd June.

If you want to sign up please fill in the attached form 2025 JAT Entry Form and email it to: juniorcoaches@tri-anglia.co.uk If you can't access the form please email us and we'll help you out. We will send you all the information for the event in a race briefing about a week before the day.
Maximum 30 places available – first come first served.
Entries close on June 14th at 6pm

If you have a Tri-Anglia junior who our coaches don't currently see on a regular basis or who does not attend any of our Junior club swim sessions you are still welcome to book into these sessions, but our coaches will need to assess the competency of your Junior swimmer prior to the session. Please email juniorcoaches@tri-anglia.co.uk for more information and to discuss. Without this information and agreement from our coaches in place, swimming will not be permitted in these sessions. Very important details - please read. 1. NO CARD - NO SWIM. The lake swims operate a very strict 'NO CARD - NO SWIM’ Safety policy. Your junior will not be allowed in the water if they don’t have their membership card, even if parents are present. 2. Arrive early and swim ready please. 8.40am arrival time on the deck for the 9am swim start. 9.10am arrival time on the deck for the 9.30am swim start. Please arrive early, with swimsuits on under clothes. Early arrival will allow for parking - pay & display, walking round to the deck and will also allow the Juniors to settle in and feel comfortable in the new setting, registration, safety briefing and faffing with wetsuits! You can put wetsuits on at the lake on the deck. NO late arrivals will be allowed in the water and you will still be charged for the session. We share the facility with our Tri-Anglia adult members. Changing rooms will only be available AFTER swimming for showering/changing and under strict safeguarding rules for Juniors.  3. Parental line of sight for juniors aged 16 and under. If your junior is aged 16 or under, a parent/carer will need to stay on the deck for the duration of the session to provide Parental Line of Sight Safety Cover. This is in addition to the safety cover provided by Whitlingham and is mandatory British Triathlon Open Water Policy. There are seats, toilets and tea/coffee making facilities on the deck for you to use whilst you watch your junior. 4. Compulsory Wetsuits Wetsuits are compulsory at all temperatures. Please contact us if you need a wetsuit for your junior. We might be able to help as we have a few spares. Email: juniorcoaches@tri-anglia.co.uk If during the session, our coaches feel your Junior needs to leave the session, they will explain why to you. It might be relating to the cold temperature or if your Junior is not behaving in a manner that is deemed to be safe by our coaches. Our coaches decisions are final and the decision will be made for the safety of your junior and the rest of the group.

Please read our  Junior-OW-Rulespolicy  for all Juniors swimming in our Summer Open Water sessions. This document gives guidance for different age brackets and specifies how Juniors can access the lake, swimming Accompanied or Unaccompanied. All Junior Tri-Anglia members, new to the club or those who have been members for years and previously swam in our Summer open water sessions, will need to complete a competency test, safety briefing and parental permission forms BEFORE they swim. Competency tests and forms need to be completed every year. Juniors will not be able to swim without completion of these forms and the competency test. Competency tests with our coaches must be booked and are available on certain Saturday mornings. You will find them listed on the Junior training page. If you can't see any tests listed, please email: Juniorcoaches@tri-anglia.co.uk to request a test. Juniors booking into a competency test will also need to book into the Summer Open water swimming sessions on the same day. General Open Water session information

Junior Progression Swim sessions at The Hewett Academy Trust School Aimed at older, faster junior club members. Approx. age guide 13 – 17yrs (younger swimmers will be considered at coaches discretion based on their 100m swim time. Please email our junior coaches to discuss). This is a dedicated swim session for our older, faster junior club members. These sessions are designed to bridge the gap between our junior swim sessions and our adult swim sessions. These are invite only progression sessions for our lane 4 Monday night junior swimmers at NHSG and for older junior club members who currently don’t swim in the junior club and can’t swim in our adult sessions because they are not old enough. As a rough 100m time guide, we would suggest junior swimmers capable of swimming a continuous 100m in the region of 1min 40 secs or less would be suitable for these sessions. Please do email our coaches to discuss if you are considering these sessions for your junior.
  • Do not forget to bring your membership card as it contains emergency contact details as well as medical information.
  • Please remember to bring any medications your junior may require, inform the coaches and make sure your junior knows to bring them poolside and give to the coaches to look after during the session. e.g Epi-pens or Asthma inhalers
  • Please arrive 'Swim Ready' as we are sharing the pool and changing rooms with another junior Swim School.
  • No valuables to be left in changing rooms. Our coaches can look after anything poolside and return to you after the session.
  • All outdoor footwear must be left in the foyer area.
  • Please arrive anytime from 5.45pm in order to be poolside and completely ready to swim at 6.01pm.
  • Spectators are welcome to stay for the session in the spectator area.
  • If a session needs to be cancelled, we will mark it as 'Cancelled' here and email all participants giving as much prior notice as possible.
If driving please enter via HALL ROAD (opposite Latimer Road). Drive through first car park and park in the second one, then walk through to the pool. There is no access to the pool from the school site. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at JuniorCoaches@tri-anglia.co.u PLEASE NOTE: Strictly no Juniors to turn up to a session without parents booking them in via this website booking system. Please join the waiting list if the session is full. You will be notified via email if a space becomes available, but also check this page incase you miss the email. The booking list freezes at 12 noon on the session day. If you have booked your Junior on to the session and then they are not able to attend, please remember to remove their name(s) from the list so another Junior is able to take their place.
