What is the Lakeside Run Challenge?
The Lakeside Challenge originated as a club social run, with the idea that runners of all abilities could run different distances of their own choice, along the same route around the lake and meet up at the end. This makes it slightly different from a Park Run or a normal race and very sociable. Runners can run in groups or on their own. You can also use the event as part of a longer training run or to target a specific pace or a PB.
How does it work?
It works due to having staggered start times which means all runners can finish more or less together and enjoy a chat, cup of tea or coffee and some cake afterwards.
Our volunteers will record your start times, everyone has a target finishing time of 10.20am and each runner starts at a different time depending on how long they intend to run for. For example: if your 5km run time is 30 mins you would start at 9.50am in order to finish at 10.20am or if your 10km run time is 50mins you would start at 9.30am.
The distances are 3.5k, 5k and 10k. It’s your choice. The 3.5km run is a great distance for juniors and adults. The 5km and 10km distances are based upon the Norwich Tri run course. It does include a bit of off road and can get muddy. If you are unsure of the course then do ask, as it’s likely someone will happily run with you.
Junior runners: Please bear in mind you cannot see your junior all the way round the course. The route goes round the entire lake, is not marked all the way round and is open to members of the public and their dogs. Parents are responsible for their children at all times and must take whatever necessary precautions they deem appropriate to keep them safe.
We’d rather people were cautious on their predictions so finished slightly ahead of time, rather than finished way behind their time. This enables our volunteers to join in on the cake action!
To give some competition and make this a challenge, we would like you to run as many of the events as you can. For each monthly challenge for the different distances, the runner nearest to a 10:20am finish, will get 10 points. Over the 6 events we will add up the total points and have the Lakeside Run Challenge winners.
The Club will provide the tea and coffee, and would really appreciate you bringing some cakes to share!
If you wish to participate you should book via the usual TA training pages. Each Lakeside Challenge will be on the last Sunday of the month.

We are able to run many of our events because we have such lovely members who volunteer!
If you are unable to run at the moment but fancy being part of the fun, or if you could give up one run for the 6, your assistance would be very welcome. We need a small number of helpers to aid with timekeeping, starting the runners at the right time, recording names at the finish, and opening and closing the gate into the picnic meadow.
Cost: There is no fee, but cake donations are gladly accepted for the post run social.
Please park in the Country Park’s car parks rather than on the roadside. In case you don’t know Tri-Anglia members get a significant discount on annual parking permits find out more here Application for parking permits.
The series results will be based on the best three times closest to 10.20am in the current series.
